Robertson RFC35R Rate Compass The RFC35R Rate Compass offers superior performance in vessels that are difficult to steer in high latitudes. On high speed and steel hull vessels the Rate Compass is strongly recommended when the shortcomings of a conventional Fluxgate or magnetic compass is clearly observed. With the RFC35R Rate Compass you will experience a dynamic performance similar to that of a gyrocompass at one tenth of the price. The shortcomings are easily observed when the vessel is yawing, pitching and rolling. In northern latitudes Autopilot "S"-ing is a well known phenomena. The vertical portion of the earth's magnetic field has a distorting influence and the compass becomes sluggish and unstable. Precision marine electronics such as autopilots and radars require a fast, stable input from a heading source in order to achieve peak performance.
